We’re thrilled to announce that we will be bringing back Natsuki Takaya’s bestselling Fruits Basket series in fully updated collector’s editions as well as debuting Takaya’s latest work, Liselotte & Witch’s Forest, and her classic series Twinkle Stars.
One of the bestselling properties in the history of the North American manga market, Fruits Basket will be returning to bookstores next Spring, having been out of print for nearly half a decade. We will republish the series with new translations in twelve updated collector’s editions of the anniversary aizoban editions which publisher Hakusensha recently began releasing in Japan. Additionally, we will debut Liselotte & Witch’s Forest and Twinkle Stars, heretofore unreleased for Western audiences.
VP and Publishing Director of Yen Press, Kurt Hassler, had this to say about the agreement, which was brokered through the Tuttle-Mori Agency: “It would not be an exaggeration to say that the original publication of Fruits Basket had a transformative effect on comics culture in this market. Fruits Basket, along with a handful of other properties, welcomed female readers to a medium and an industry that had too long ignored them, introducing a generation of readers and future creators and professionals to comics, and the reverberations of that impact continue to reshape comics today. We are delighted that Takaya-sensei and Hakusensha have seen fit to entrust us to reintroduce Fruits Basket into North America and the UK and to introduce Liselotte & Witch’s Forest and Twinkle Stars to these markets for the first time.”
Fruits Basket is the story of Tohru Honda, a young girl who – following the untimely deaths of her parents – finds herself living in a tent on land belonging to the Sohma family. When the family takes her in, she discovers their rather unusual “curse”: possessed by spirits of the Chinese Zodiac, they transform into their zodiac animal when embraced by someone of the opposite sex.
In Liselotte & Witch’s Forest, titular character Liselotte holds out hope of finding an important person from her past, but her quest leads her to a forest rumored to be inhabited by witches.
Sakuya, the lead character of Twinkle Stars, has always been mesmerized by the night sky, but when she meets a boy at her eighteenth birthday party, she discovers that the stars may actually have more to do with her fate than she ever imagined.
Volumes one and two of Fruits Basket will be released in June of 2016 with a single volume releasing each month thereafter. The first volume of Liselotte & Witch’s Forest will release in July 2016 with successive volumes following every three months. Additional details regarding Twinkle Stars, which will be published as five omnibus editions, will be released at a later date.

Kyaaaa~ I saw this at the end of the work day, fangirled super hard, and therefore know for a fact that my teen librarian coworker will be buying 2 sets of Fruits Basket when it’s available. I had literally just been lamenting the fact that some of our copies of it are overdue.

YES! Can’t wait. Though I have a question, will you be licensing and distributing Fruits Basket Another?

Your translation of Sekirei volume 1 was excellent! How often are you going to release new Sekirei volumes?

@Kaitlin – So glad you enjoyed it! We’ll update the website’s schedule as soon as we’re able to announce that information.

Great pick-ups that I’m sure will please a lot of fans!
It’d be nice if you guys could license these titles, too:
– Is the order a rabbit? (manga)
– The Comic Artist and His Assistants (manga)
– Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu. (novel)
– Heavy Object (novel)
– Rokka no Yuusha (novel) – I don’t really know if you can license from Shueisha…
– Lord Marksman and Vanadis (novel)
– Fate/Zero (novel)

this is fantastic news! i already own the original volumes of furuba, but i’ll probably pick the new ones up too. warrants a reread, if nothing else 🙂
unrelated question i hope someone can answer: with the final volumes of pandora hearts on their way, will yenpress be releasing the second artbook, ‘There Is’, and the fanbook, 24.5? i’d love to be able to have the complete pandora hearts collection, preferably in english. looking forward to memoirs of vanitas 🙂

Hello! I just have one question regarding the republishing of Fruits Basket (which I’m looking forward to immensely)! Now this may be a silly question, but in the article it says “we will republish the Fruits Basket series with new translations in twelve updated collectors editions” and I know that Fruits Basket has 23 volumes in total, so does that mean that these new editions will be omnibuses? Or is only half the series being republished?
Thank you!

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!! I nearly had a heart attack of happiness when I read this news!!! Furuba is my favorite manga of all time, and I’ve been desperately wanting to read her other series, too!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 <3

It would be nice if you could license:
Rokka no yuusha LN
Yumekui merry manga
Absolute duo LN and manga

What are the chances this means there will be ebook copies of Fruits Basket? I would throw so much money at that!

Thank you so much for rescuing Fruits Basket! Please consider also picking up Gakuen Alice by Higuchi Tachibana in the future as the releases ended at volume 14 due to Tokyopop shutting down. ;A;

I can’t believe this! This is the best news I have heard in a while. Never have I ever thought that Liselette and Twinkle Stars would be licensed here in the west. I am looking forward to the releases later in the year. Thank you very much <3

I’m so happy that fruits baskets is being released again!! I have a question tho is it going to be hardback or paperback?
Also it would be absolutely amazing if you could rerelease Gakuen Alice because Tokyopop never got to finish releasing them. They only got 16 books out of I think 30 something books. Please consider it.

I’ve read Snow White with the Red hair on the internet and I was wondering if you guys can license it. The manga is only in Japanese and I hope you would consider it.

Can’t wait to get a new copy of fruits basket! Does this mean that the tv series will be continuing as well?

Will the rest of the series be released? I can only find volumes 1-12! I do hope all 23 volumes will be released.

The Fruits Basket Collector’s Edition are omnibus editions. Volumes 1-12 of the Collector’s Edition contain the whole series.
